It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Barnes, a beloved daughter, friend, and student, who tragically lost her life on Thursday evening, October 2, 2025, in a motor vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 411 near Turkey Town, Alabama. She was 21 years old.
Elizabeth, a resident of Gadsden, was a bright and compassionate young woman with a promising future ahead of her. She was currently pursuing her studies at Auburn University, where she was known for her dedication, intelligence, and warmth. Her passion for learning and her genuine care for those around her left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Elizabeth was driving a Lexus SUV when her vehicle collided with the rear of a Freightliner log truck at mile marker 223. She was transported to a hospital in Gadsden, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Elizabeth’s passing is an unimaginable loss to her family, friends, and the Auburn University community. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her kind heart, and the joy she brought into the lives of others.
She is survived by her parents, family, and countless friends who loved her dearly. Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
The accident remains under investigation by state troopers.
