According to Honolulu Police, the accident occurred as Cynthia was crossing at a marked crosswalk on North School Street after getting off a bus from work. As she crossed, a male driver, turning from Kokea Street onto North School Street, struck her and fled the scene, continuing westbound.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity, and her family is mourning the sudden and devastating loss.

Residents of the neighborhood, including witness Sii Maiava, described the intersection as increasingly hazardous due to heavy traffic and ongoing construction. “I seen an elderly lady in the crosswalk and they were trying to revive her… They took her in the ambulance and was still trying to revive her,” Maiava said. “I was thinking she was already passed and they were trying to keep her alive.”

Cynthia was a hardworking woman known for her kindness, dedication to her family, and her gentle, generous nature. She was on her way home from work, a daily routine that ended in tragedy. Her untimely passing has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
