Worcester, MA – August 31, 2025 — A student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has sadly passed away in what authorities are treating as an apparent suicide.
The university confirmed the tragic news in a statement released earlier today, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and extending condolences to the student’s family, friends, and the campus community.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but despite efforts, the student was pronounced dead. Their identity has not been publicly released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
WPI officials stated that support services are being made available to students, staff, and faculty. Counseling and mental health resources are being offered through the university’s wellness programs.
“We are heartbroken by this loss,” a university spokesperson said. “We encourage anyone who is struggling to seek support, and we stand together in this difficult time as a community.”
The incident remains under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.
