A woman in her 50s was fatally injured Wednesday morning after falling from a freeway overpass in Highland Park and striking a vehicle on the 110 Freeway below, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received reports around 10:20 a.m. of a woman seen dangling from the Avenue 60 overpass above the Arroyo Seco Parkway. According to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz, the woman—believed to be approximately 55 years old—fell or jumped moments later, striking a vehicle traveling on the freeway.
First responders arrived quickly, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle she struck remained at the scene and was not reported to be seriously injured.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Authorities have not released the woman’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as emergency crews responded and investigators worked to determine the cause of the fall.
