“This is not an active shooter situation,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told local media. “We are responding out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of the Mercer community.”
Law enforcement began a sweep of campus buildings shortly after the alert was issued. As of now, there have been **no confirmed injuries or arrests**. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet provided details about the nature of the threat.
Jennifer Fairfield Williams, a Mercer University media relations official, said all university emergency protocols were activated immediately and that the university will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
Students and staff were urged to monitor official university communication channels and await further instructions.
At press time, the **shelter-in-place order remained in effect**, with no “all clear” yet announced.
