Tigard, OR — Authorities are actively investigating a reported shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon at Washington Square Mall in Tigard, prompting a swift law enforcement response and temporary lockdown of the area.
According to the Tigard Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the sound of gunfire inside the popular shopping center. The mall was quickly evacuated, and law enforcement teams began clearing the premises store by store.
As of now, police have not confirmed any injuries or fatalities. It remains unclear whether a suspect has been identified or is in custody.
“We are asking the public to avoid the area as officers continue to secure the scene and conduct their investigation,” said a Tigard Police spokesperson in a brief statement on social media. “Updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.”
Witnesses inside the mall at the time of the incident reported scenes of panic as shoppers fled or took cover inside stores.
The Washington Square Mall, located just southwest of Portland, is one of the region’s busiest retail centers and is typically crowded on weekends.
