Albuquerque, NM – August 23, 2025* — The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) has launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting late Friday night at a local bar.
On August 22nd, just before 11 p.m., APD officers were dispatched to the Effingbar and Grill, located at 5300 Sequoia Rd NW, after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Rescue personnel quickly responded and provided emergency medical aid at the scene. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
The parking lot of the Effingbar and Grill remained crowded with highly emotional patrons in the aftermath of the incident. Due to the ongoing investigation and the area being secured as an active crime scene, many vehicles were unable to leave the premises.
In an effort to assist stranded individuals, APD reached out to the Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) department to request transport for patrons away from the scene. However, ACS reportedly declined the request.
No suspects have been publicly identified, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
