Joan Leishman, a veteran CBC journalist has sadly passed away. The news of her passing was shared online by her loved ones. Her legacy lives on in the voices she helped nurture and the lives she so gently uplifted.
My thoughts are with her daughters, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.
Joan Leishman was a veteran CBC journalist specializing in international affairs. For more than a decade, she worked as a documentary reporter for *The National*. She also served as CBC TV’s Latin American bureau chief, based in Mexico City, and later opened CBC Radio’s first bureau in Africa. From there, she reported on pivotal events including the Rwandan genocide and South Africa’s tumultuous transition from apartheid to the democratic election of Nelson Mandela.
Her courage, compassion, and commitment to truth-telling will not be forgotten.
