It is with deep sorrow and aching hearts that we announce the passing of Stella Medeiros-Hodge, a beloved Year 9 student at All Hallows’ School in Brisbane, who died over the weekend.
Stella was the deeply loved daughter of Lucia and Iain, and the cherished younger sister of Isabella, currently in Year 12 at All Hallows’. A bright, kind, and thoughtful young soul, Stella was a valued member of the Whitty House and the broader school community, touching many with her quiet warmth, sincerity, and vibrant spirit.
Though her time with us was far too short, Stella’s presence left a lasting imprint on the hearts of her classmates, teachers, and all who knew her. She will be remembered for her gentle smile, her generosity of spirit, and the quiet courage she carried with her each day.
In a message to the school community, Principal Catherine O’Kane shared the heartbreak of Stella’s loss, writing, “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Stella Medeiros-Hodge, Year 9 (Whitty), overnight on Sunday.”
Her family, in their immense grief, have bravely shared that Stella died by suicide. In doing so, they hope to open space for compassion, understanding, and conversations around mental health — a legacy of care and awareness that Stella’s life may now inspire.
All Hallows’ School, founded in 1865, suspended all activity on Tuesday to mourn and honor Stella. The community gathers not only in grief, but also in love and support — holding Stella’s family close in their thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time.
Stella will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and the entire All Hallows’ School community.
A service to celebrate Stella’s life will be announced in due course.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by light and love.
