Anchorage police are responding to reports of an active shooter situation near a wooded area adjacent to local sports fields this evening. Authorities have urged residents to stay clear of the area as emergency response teams continue to investigate and secure the scene.
The incident has led to the cancellation of tonight’s Buc’s game, which was scheduled to take place nearby. Witnesses say multiple youth sports teams, including high school and college athletes, were on the fields at the time. Some of the high school students reportedly sought shelter at Mulcahy Stadium as the situation unfolded.
Anchorage Police Department (APD) is actively investigating and has not yet released details about any suspects or possible injuries. In a brief statement, officials emphasized the importance of giving law enforcement space to work safely and effectively:
“Please avoid the area and allow APD to do their job.”
