It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martez L. Jones Jr., age 32, of Urbana, Illinois, who departed this life in the early hours of Friday, July 4, 2025. Martez was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana following a tragic shooting incident in Champaign.
Born and raised in the Urbana-Champaign community, Martez was known for his vibrant spirit, his love for family, and his deep ties to those around him. His loss has left an immense void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
An autopsy has been scheduled by the Champaign County Coroner, Laurie Brauer, to determine the exact cause of death.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date. The community mourns alongside his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Martez’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
