It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Chandler “Jet” Jones, former San José State Spartans wide receiver and valued coach. The San José State Spartans Football program recently announced his passing on their official Facebook page, and the entire Spartan community mourns the loss of such an outstanding individual.
Born on November 28, 1991, Chandler left a lasting legacy both on the field and off. As a player, he became the Spartans’ all-time leader in career receptions (248) and touchdown catches (29), earning first-team All-Mountain West and honorable mention All-American honors during his standout senior season in 2013, when he hauled in 79 catches for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns

After graduation, he pursued a professional football career, making stops with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes
However, Chandler’s greatest passion brought him back to San José State, where he served from 2017 to 2019 as a graduate assistant, contributing his expertise and leadership to the defensive staff.
Chandler’s dedication extended beyond sport; he earned a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Counselor Education at SJSU, and later transitioned into coaching wide receivers and recruiting coordination at the College of Idaho.
He was revered for his infectious smile, relentless work ethic, and powerful mentorship — a true Spartan through and through.
