Authorities are investigating the deaths of two individuals who were found deceased inside a home in the 1600 block of West Sterns Road on Monday, June 16.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as Gwendolyn Fay Smith, 17, a 2025 graduate of Bedford Public Schools, and Ryne Jacob Leist, 33, of Temperance. Deputies responded to the residence on Monday, where both individuals were discovered deceased. Gwen was a gifted student who excelled academically, and her talents extended far beyond the classroom. She was a passionate artist in our music programs and a standout athlete on our bowling team.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear, and the case is currently under active investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. No additional information has been released regarding the cause or manner of death.
