It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Lachlan McQuivey, a devoted student of Brigham Young University. Lachlan reportedly died by suicide. Lachlan’s loss has left a profound impact on all who knew him—his family, friends, classmates, and ward members.
Known for his kindness, sincerity, and unwavering faith, Lachlan was a bright light in the lives of many. His presence at BYU and in his ward community brought joy, comfort, and strength to those around him. Lachlan’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how precious and fragile life is.
Our deepest condolences and sincerest prayers go out to Lachlan’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. May you feel the peace and love of the Savior as you grieve, remember, and begin to heal.
The ward and university have support resources readily available for anyone in need of counseling, emotional support, or spiritual guidance. We strongly encourage those affected by this loss to reach out, speak with a bishop, counselor, or trusted leader, and to lean on one another for strength.
As we mourn Lachlan’s passing, let us also follow the Savior’s example of love by checking in on each other, offering compassion, and sharing burdens. Ward auxiliaries are available and eager to talk, pray, or simply sit with you in your sorrow.
Lachlan will be deeply missed—but his spirit, warmth, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
