Carlow, Saturday 1st June 2025 – A serious shooting incident occurred this evening at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow, resulting in the death of a local man and injuries to two children.
Gardaí have confirmed that a white Irish male, believed to be from the Carlow area, died at the scene. His injuries appear to have been self-inflicted following the discharge of multiple gunshots inside the Tesco supermarket at approximately 6:15 PM.
A young girl sustained minor wounds during the incident. She was treated on-site by emergency services and later discharged into the care of her family.
In addition, a young boy was also injured, although the nature of his injuries—whether from gunfire or the ensuing panic—remains unclear. He has been taken to hospital for treatment. Gardaí have stated that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The shopping centre was immediately evacuated, and the scene remains sealed off as Gardaí carry out a full forensic investigation. The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was also called to the location as a precautionary measure, though authorities have since confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
Gardaí are appealing to the public for information and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to contact Carlow Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line. They have also urged people not to circulate videos or images from the scene on social media.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming hours.
