A tragic car crash on Route 31 in Hopewell Township claimed the life of a Lenape High School senior and left two classmates seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The victim, identified as Jacob Swann, was riding in a Honda Civic with two other Lenape High School seniors when the crash occurred around noon between Titus Mill Road and Hopewell-Pennington Road in Mercer County. Hopewell Township Police responded to the scene shortly after 12 p.m.
The two surviving students sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their names have not been released.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
In the wake of the tragedy, grief counselors from the Burlington County Crisis Response Team were on-site at Lenape High School on Wednesday to provide emotional support to students and staff.
“Our hearts go out to Jacob’s family, friends, and the entire Lenape community during this incredibly difficult time,” said a school spokesperson.
