It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that Henderson State University and Reddie Athletics mourn the passing of junior men’s basketball student-athlete, Jamarion “Jo” Brown.

Though Jo spent just one season in Arkadelphia, his presence left an indelible mark on the Henderson State campus and community. His warmth, kindness, and infectious smile made him not only one of the most recognizable faces on campus but also one of its most beloved. Jo had a unique ability to make others feel seen, heard, and valued—traits that endeared him to classmates, faculty, staff, and teammates alike.

On the court, Jo was a fierce competitor—tenacious, selfless, and driven. He was an integral part of the 2024-25 Reddie men’s basketball team, earning the respect of coaches and teammates through his unmatched work ethic and unrelenting spirit. Jo embodied the Reddie Spirit in every sense: passionate, resilient, and committed to excellence.

“Jo’s impact was felt not only on the basketball court, but throughout the fabric of Henderson State University,” said head men’s basketball coach Jimmy Elgas. “No words can express our sadness for Jamarion’s family, friends, and teammates. We lift them all up in prayer. His loss leaves a tremendous void on our campus, but Jo will be remembered and honored in our hearts forever.”

Jamarion Brown was more than an athlete—he was a beacon of joy, a true friend, and a model student whose legacy of love, leadership, and light will live on in all who knew him.

Details regarding memorial services will be shared by the university as they become available.
