It is with profound sadness that Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office announce the untimely passing of Deputy Larry Henderson, who died in the line of duty on Friday, May 2nd, after being struck by a vehicle. He passed away shortly thereafter, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and profound impact on all who had the honor of working alongside him.
Deputy Henderson began his career with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office with an unmistakable passion for public service and a deep commitment to his community. Early in his tenure, Sheriff McGuffey recognized Larry’s unique gift for teaching and his natural ability to connect with others. This led to his swift transition into a training role within the department, where he developed an expertise that would shape and guide generations of deputies.
Over the years, Deputy Henderson became a cornerstone of the Sheriff’s Office training division. He instructed hundreds of deputies across multiple divisions, always bringing a sense of integrity, relatability, and compassion to his work. His influence extended beyond skill-building—he inspired confidence, nurtured leadership, and fostered unity throughout the department.
“In Deputy Henderson’s early tenure as a Sheriff’s Deputy, I recognized his talent for teaching and presentation,” Sheriff McGuffey shared. “Larry began his journey as a Sheriff’s Office trainer early in his career. He developed an expertise and became an excellent trainer. Subsequently, he trained divisions of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office that included hundreds of deputy sheriffs. His ability to relate to and touch officers’ lives was extraordinary. We will continue to honor Larry’s life of service.”
