Savannah Mason, a 23-year-old resident of Lafayette and assistant manager at Carter’s, a children’s clothing store tragically lost her life in a vehicle collision on the afternoon of Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on U.S. 52 near Wyandotte Road and involved the Boilermaker Special, Purdue University’s iconic mascot vehicle. According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Boilermaker Special was traveling northbound when it reportedly experienced a tire malfunction, crossed the center line, and collided with the car Mason was driving southbound. She was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, April 28, the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office identified Mason and listed her preliminary cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. Her death has been ruled accidental.
Savannah Mason was a beloved daughter, friend, and member of the Lafayette community, remembered for her kindness, vibrant spirit, and the love she shared with those around her. She leaves behind grieving family, friends, and a community in shock over her untimely passing.
