The Omaha community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Elise Cole, a 16-year-old student whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident near Millard West High School on the evening of Monday, April 21st.

Elise was involved in a collision at the intersection of 176th and Q Streets at approximately 7:24 p.m. Despite valiant efforts by first responders and hospital staff, she was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the hospital. According to Omaha police, the crash occurred when another vehicle ran a red light, a devastating turn of events that is still under investigation.

Elise was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Kind, creative, and full of life, she had a warm heart, a radiant smile, and a deep sense of empathy that made her a cherished friend, daughter, and classmate. Whether in the classroom, on the soccer field, or simply spending time with those she loved, Elise lived with an energy and joy that touched so many.

She had dreams for the future — dreams of making a difference in the world, of exploring her passions, and of continuing to grow into the remarkable young woman her family and friends already saw in her. That future, so full of promise, was taken far too soon.

Elise is survived by her loving family, her many friends, and a school community that will never forget the light she brought into their lives. A memorial service will be announced in the coming days, where all who loved Elise can come together to honor her memory, share stories, and begin the long journey of healing.

In this time of deep sorrow, we remember Elise not for the tragedy that took her, but for the joy, kindness, and strength she shared in every moment she was here.

May her memory be a blessing.
