It is with solemn respect that we acknowledge the passing of Derrick Golliday, who tragically lost his life in the early hours of Thursday, April 11, 2025, in Washington Park, Illinois. He was 35 years old.
Derrick was fatally shot in the 1200 block of North 53rd Street and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:13 a.m., according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. While details surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the Illinois State Police, the loss of Derrick is felt deeply by those who knew him.
Though Derrick is believed to have been unhoused at the time of his death, those who knew him remember more than his circumstances — they remember his laughter, his resilience, and his ability to connect with people despite the hardships he faced. Life dealt Derrick many challenges, but his humanity, his presence, and his story mattered.
In a world quick to overlook the vulnerable, may we remember Derrick Golliday not by the tragedy of his death, but by the importance of his life. He was a son, a friend, and a man with hopes and struggles like any other.
Plans for a memorial or remembrance will be announced if and when family or friends come forward. In Derrick’s memory, let us extend compassion to those in need, advocate for those without shelter, and work toward a future where every life is seen and valued.
May Derrick rest in peace.
