It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Agustín Escobar, President and CEO of Siemens in Spain, along with his beloved wife and their three children. The family passed away in a helicopter crash over the Hudson River in New York City on Thursday, April 10, 2025, a heartbreaking event that has sent shockwaves through both the international business community and the hearts of all who knew them.

The Escobar family had just arrived in Manhattan from their home in Barcelona, Spain, earlier that day, excited to begin a family visit to the United States. A photograph shared on the New York Helicopter Tours website captured a joyful moment of the family of five standing in front of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV helicopter—unaware it would be their last.

Agustín Escobar was a visionary leader whose career with Siemens spanned over two decades. Appointed President and CEO of Siemens Spain, he was admired not only for his innovation and leadership but for his deep commitment to sustainability and technological advancement in energy and infrastructure. Known for his warmth, humility, and integrity, Agustín brought inspiration to colleagues and compassion to his community.

Outside of his professional achievements, Agustín was a devoted family man. Together with his wife, whose grace and generosity touched countless lives, they raised three extraordinary children. The family’s close bond and adventurous spirit were evident to all who knew them.

As investigations continue and authorities work to identify the cause of the crash, the identity of the pilot remains undisclosed.

The world mourns the loss of a remarkable family. Siemens released a statement describing Agustín as a “brilliant mind, an exceptional leader, and above all, a cherished friend and father.” Their absence leaves an irreplaceable void.

A memorial service will be held in Barcelona at a later date to honor the lives and legacy of Agustín Escobar and his family.
