Shaker Heights Library Shooting – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Charles Shanklin, age 18, of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Charles tragically lost his life on Tuesday, March 31, 2025, following a shooting at the Shaker Heights Public Library.
Charles was a bright and promising young man with a bright future ahead of him. Known for his kind heart, infectious smile, and warm personality, Charles made a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a valued member of his community, and his presence will be greatly missed by family, friends, and peers alike.
The tragic events unfolded around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, when authorities responded to a call reporting a shooting at the Main Branch of the Shaker Heights Library. Charles was found at the scene with gunshot wounds and was immediately transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding this senseless act remain under investigation, and while answers are still to be found, the family takes comfort in the outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time.
Charles is survived by his family, who cherished him deeply and will forever hold his memory in their hearts. His loss leaves an irreplaceable gap, but his spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
A memorial service for Charles will be held privately, and the family asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’s memory to local youth organizations that were important to him.
