A welfare check on a man in crisis who was allegedly armed and threatening to hurt himself and others was reported to Boulder Police at around 11:36 a.m. today. The University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD) was notified at 1:38 p.m. by a witness who claimed to have seen a guy drop a gun while on campus. After putting the gun back in his pants, the man allegedly drove away from the scene.
Police found the suspect’s car in south Boulder, close to 40th Street and Table Mesa Drive, at approximately 3 p.m. Officers made an effort to immobilize the car safely.

After activating Boulder Police SWAT, officers tried to defuse the situation and persuade the subject to surrender peacefully for more than four hours. Unfortunately, while negotiations were going on, the suspect committed suicide at around 7:15 p.m.
