It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Higinio Juan Gonzales, age 59, of Salt Lake City, who tragically lost his life in an avalanche in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Higinio, known to family and friends as a kind-hearted and adventurous spirit, was one of two men caught in the deadly avalanche. Despite the heroic efforts of first responders, Higinio was buried by the snow and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Higinio was a loving father, brother, and friend. His passion for the outdoors and his infectious enthusiasm for life touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was admired for his unwavering kindness, strength, and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh with those around him. Higinio’s adventurous spirit will forever be remembered by his family, friends, and the community.
He is survived by his family, who loved him deeply and will carry his memory in their hearts always. Higinio’s legacy of love, joy, and a life well-lived will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
