John Staats, a bright and promising 15-year-old, was tragically killed in a shooting on Stanton Road in Little Rock early yesterday morning. He is remembered by his family, friends, and community for his kind heart, sharp intellect, and genuine spirit.
John was the son of loving parents, who described him as a “very good and sweet boy” with a passion for life. His family shared in a statement, “John was very smart, fun, and liked to make people laugh. He was a good student and had a deep love for football and sports.” His talents extended beyond athletics; John was a gifted musician, playing the violin with the Arkansas Symphony Youth Ensemble for several years. He also had a love for the piano and was an active member of the Little Rock Dolphin Swim Team.
A strong believer in God, John was baptized at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in July 2019, where he embraced his faith with deep reflection and insight. His family describes him as having a “gifted and natural understanding of religion.”
John’s life, though cut tragically short, left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He is now resting in heaven, and will be missed beyond measure by his family, neighbors, friends, and classmates.
