Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the man who died in a residential structure fire Friday evening in Springfield.
Cory Beebe, 37, of Springfield, was found dead following the blaze, which occurred in the 1500 block of South 8th Street. The fire broke out Friday evening, and emergency crews responded to the scene, where they discovered Beebe’s body inside the home.
Preliminary autopsy findings revealed that Beebe’s death was caused by smoke inhalation. Officials are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.
At this time, the Springfield Fire Department is working to determine the exact origin of the fire. No further details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The community is mourning the loss, and authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to come forward.
